April 29th

Happy Monday!
The students began ERB testing today. They were very focused and tried their best, and that's all I can ask.  We will begin each day with the tests, and our final day of testing is Thursday.  Please ensure a good night's sleep, healthy breakfast, and arrive at school on time.

I've noticed that some of the children are forgetting to bring in a snack or are choosing unhealthy snacks.  Please check to see that they have a healthy snack each day.  They really do need this little pick me up mid-morning!

Due to ERB testing, we will not have homework or any tests/quizzes this week!

We enjoyed our field trip downtown to look at the architecture of Saint Petersburg.  Mrs. Elwyn was our tour guide, and she did an outstanding job as always.

April 23rd

Hello Everyone,
This week we are going on an architectural field trip this Friday...weather permitting!  It is a wonderful trip to downtown St. Petersburg with Mrs. Elwyn who is also a Shorecrest parent.  Please be sure to ask your child about what they learned!

We will have a spelling test and a vocabulary quiz this Friday.  The children will also have book checkout before we leave on our field trip.

We are spending this week learning test taking strategies and reviewing pertinent skills for our ERB testing next week.  By the way... ERB stands for Educational Records Bureau.  The ERB tests are not used for grading purposes.  It is a measurement for your child in reading skills and math skills.  Since third grade is the first year for your child's testing, it will provide baseline data.  Please ask me if you have other questions regarding testing next week.

April 15th

Hello Everyone!
School News:
This week is Celebrate the Arts.  The children will hear a drummer and a rock band this week in addition to their performance this Friday at 11:00.  We hope you plan on joining us for this event as well as a picnic lunch afterwards!

School is closed on Monday, April 22nd.

ERB testing begins April 29th.  The children should still bring a snack.  It is highly encouraged to ensure a good night's rest as well a good breakfast.

Class News:
The children are very excited about their science projects.  By now, hopefully, your child has shared that they will be working with a small group or partner to investigate further about a science topic of interest related to our field trip.  The work for this project will be completed primarily in class.  We look forward to sharing with you when all is complete!

We have new vocabulary words that will be tested on April 26th:
calendar, carnival, experience, govern, gulf, haste, hasty, nation, national, scatter, surrender, thrill

We will have a math test on Tuesday.  The practice test is going home on Monday.  The spelling test will be on Friday as usual.

Happy Monday!

This week we began a new class novel called Morning Girl.  It is set in the same time as our social studies unit...the age of the European explorers coming to America.
We will begin a new writing unit emphasizing fantasy.
Our math unit will focus on multiplication with parentheses as well as multiplying larger numbers.
We will have a spelling and vocabulary test this Friday.
Please remember that Celebrate the Arts is next Friday.  Our architectural field trip will be rescheduled due to rainy weather last Friday.  I will let you know the new date.  It will not affect lunch time whichever day we go.

Happy April Everyone!
It's hard to believe there are only two more months of school!

There are several important events happening this week.
1) WrAP testing is Tuesday and Wednesday.  Please ensure that your child gets a good night's sleep and healthy breakfast each morning so that they will be better prepared for this writing assessment.
2) Relay for Life is this Friday.  We will kick off the day with an all school assembly at 9:00 on the football field.  Due to this, we will not have book checkout this week. Students may wear purple shirts all week with the uniform bottoms.
3) Our class is going on an architectural tour of downtown St. Petersburg this Friday after the relay for life kickoff.  I can take one chaperone.  First one to respond with the desire to help gets to go! :-)
4) Celebrate the Arts Program will be Friday, April 19th.  Please join us at 11:00 for this and a picnic lunch to follow!
5) We will have a spelling test this Friday.
6) New vocabulary words to be tested on Friday, April 12th are: adopt, arouse, arrange, cell, infection, influence, injure, injury, pattern, series, vision
